There seems to be no end to land scams in the state these days. This time it's the son of a former Congress MLA who was arrested on Sunday in connection with a forgery case. An FIR was lodged against him along with 10 others after a brief  inquiry by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), set up specifically to look into land swindling issues.

Dilip Ramoliya, a resident of Talala, Junagadh, registered a complaint with Viramgam (rural police) stating that he was cheated by Shantilal Vadlani, son of Premji Vadlani, ex-MLA of Viramgam, along with nine farmers and a land broker. Police said that Vadlani who lives near Jivraj Park in Ahmedabad had allegedly facilitated the sale of around 50 bighas of land in Jejra village, 25 km away from Viramgam, twice on the basis of forged documents.

Police said that in 2007, Vadlani had acted as a middleman in the sale of the land to Jitu Patel, a resident of Gandhinagar, in which a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Patel and nine farmers.

However, Vadlani allegedly forged the documents and sold the entire land again to the complainant Ramoliya for Rs26.51 lakh. But Ramoliya came to know about the land's actual owner through newspapers and realised that he was duped.

He then approached the superintendent of police Sandeep Singh and registered a complaint, said an official.Officials also said that Vadlani was the prime accused while one Anwar, a land broker from Juhapura and nine farmers have also been named in the case. Police said that since the farmers too were involved in the act, they also will be arrested. While Vadlani has been arrested the others will be put behind bars soon, said the police.

Last week, a similar case involving an 80-year-old man had taken place in Sanand.
