Former BJP member of the Rajya Sabha and writer Dinanath Mishra died on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 76.

He was ailing for sometime and admitted to a hospital recently for treatment.

Mishra was MP from 1998 to 2004. He started his career as a journalist and served as editor of RSS mouthpiece Panchajanya from 1971 to 1974. Later he worked as editor of Navbharat Times.

Originally from Gaya in Bihar, he moved with his family to Delhi in 1967.

He is survived by his wife, son and three daughters.

Condoling his death, BJP President Rajnath Singh said it is a personal loss to him.

"As an MP, Dinanath Mishra served the people as an honest and hardworking public servant. Till his last breath, he provided fresh energy to journalism through his writings," Singh said, adding Mishra was a thinker, intellectual and a dedicated party worker.
