There are total 11 members in the EC, out of which two are nominated by the president. As per the University Act and statutes, the EC is the principle executive body of the university and has powers to look into the management and administration of the revenue and property of the university and the conduct of all administrative affairs. "The term of a few nominees in EC is expected to conclude within a few days. Therefore, new nominees are being appointed by the President of India," said M Periasamy, interim vice chancellor of the university.

The new nominee was president of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in Greater Hyderabad in 1990-91. He was also the chairman of Saraswathi Vidya Nilayam, Suryapet, which is a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-run institution.

The appointment took place days after the massive protests over the Hyderabad University scholar Rohith Vemula's suicide. The researcher and four others were suspended for allegedly beating up an ABVP leader.
