Oppn accuses govt of running away from debate over paper leak, SC/ST Act
The Opposition, led by Congress, accused the BJP government of running away from the no-confidence motion and debate on critical issues like the CBSE paper leak, dilution of the SC/ST Act and communal riots by using its NDA partners to create ruckus and force adjournments in the Parliament.
As the Parliament reconvened after four days of break on Monday, AIADMK and TDP members immediately rushed to the well creating pandemonium. The sudden move did not allow the Opposition to move ahead with its adjournment motions.
The Trinamool Congress accused the BJP government of playing a “fixed match” with its partners.
“Parliament is not just for the ruling party alone. Everyday, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister gets to speak but none of the Opposition parties do. It’s a fixed match; NDA partners are in the well, stalling the House,” said Kalyan Banerjee, Trinamool’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha. He also tweeted: “There are other issues like petrol-diesel price hike, #CBSEPaperLeak, #AirIndia disinvestment, atrocities on #Dalits, other than #NoConfidenceMotion where no counting of heads is required.”
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that the way the Parliament is functioning, the government seems hell-bent on a washout of the whole session. “It is not interested in any debate and running away,” he added.
In the Lok Sabha, no business was transacted for the 18th consecutive day after AIADMK members trooped into the well of the House demanding immediate constitution of the Cauvery water management board. In the Rajya Sabha, vociferous protests from the Opposition members forced Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to adjourn the House till tomorrow.
