Five in a day: CM to be on 'inauguration spree' in Jaipur today

Before the Shradh begins on Thursday (September 19) and model code of conduct comes into force in state, the chief minister will inaugurate all major projects of the city on Wednesday. One of them is inaugurating the hop-on and hop-off service of the low-floor buses meant for tourists.

Chief minister Ashok Gehlot will also lay the foundation of building for the world-class bus stand at Sindhi Camp.

“The chief minister will lay the foundation stone for the world-class bus stand at Sindhi Camp on Wednesday,” said Sudhir Bhati, PRO of Rajasthan Roadways.

The inauguration for the trial run of Metro will also be done on the day while the long-awaited inauguration of police headquarters is also slated.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony of affordable housing scheme in Bagru has also been scheduled. In all, five project inaugurals have been slated on a single day.

As the Shradhs begin from September 19, and traditionally, no new work is undertaken or nothing new is purchased during the Shradhs, Wednesday is the only day the government has to hold inauguration of various projects in the city.

Sources said this time around CM Gehlot doesn’t want to repeat the mistake he had made during his last tenure when after a long process Bisalpur Water Supply System was introduced in the city.

The project was the brainchild of the Congress government, but was inaugurated when the BJP came to power.

Further, towards the end of the month, the model code of conduct for elections is expected to come into force in the state. Therefore, the government is in a hurry to take the credit of the various programmes and projects in the city.

Also, time before the election code of conduct comes into force will be used in inaugurating various other bigger projects for the state during when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will visit the state.
