A fishermen's association here alleged that Sri Lankan navalmen today assaulted a group of Tamil Nadu fishermen near Katchathivu in Palk Strait.
The fishermen, who had set out to sea from Rameswaram and Mandapam, were scared away by Lankan navy personnel who fired in the air, fishermen association president NJ Bose said today.
He alleged that Sri Lankan naval personnel snapped their fishing nets and also broke their Global Positioning Systems.
Katchathivu is an islet ceded to Sri Lanka by India in 1974.
