Four people including two children were killed in a fire incident in Malda's Manikchak area when a man allegedly torched his brother's home over a family dispute.

Besides 4 dead, four others suffered burn injuries. Two of them are said to be serious and are undergoing treatment at Malda Medical College.

The police have arrested Kanchan Mandal, the wife of Makhan Mandal who is accused of torching the home of his brother at Madantola village in Manikchak police station area of West Bengal.

According to police officials, the victim Govinds Manadal has 4 brothers one of which is accused Makhan. After his father's death, Gobinda was given a job on compassionate grounds which triggered a family dispute among brothers.

It is alleged that on Sunday night, Makhan Mandal poured petrol on his younger brother's home and set it on fire.

Gobinda, his elder brother Bikash and Gobinda's two daughters - aged 4 and one and half years - were charred to death. Bikash's wife, his son and daughter and Gobinda's wife were admitted to Malda Medical College with serious injuries are currently undergoing treatment.

The main accused of the incident, Makhan Mandal is still absconding and his wife has been arrested by the police. A police forensic team is helping the cops in investigating the matter. A forensic team led by Dr Debashish Saha visited the crime scene and collected samples. IG Sujit Sarkar of Malda range also inspected the crime scene.
