According to a report in a leading daily, a panchayat at Charthaval town in Muzaffarnagar district had on September 19, passed a diktat saying only five people should attend a wedding ceremony from the groom's side. The idea was to reduce the burden on the bride's family.

So when it was time for his 22-year-old son Firoz's wedding, Fatehdin Tyagi, president of the Muslim Tyagi Samaj in western UP, decided to implement the panchayat order.

The bride's family was informed that only five people, including the groom, would be present for the wedding ceremonies. Then, so that his own family members would not be upset, there was a lucky draw to select the five members. Apart from Fatehdin and Firoz, three of his brothers-in-law - Sameen, Jamshed and Jawed, made it to the wedding. Youngest among 10 siblings, Firoz was reportedly happy with his father's decision.
