The Churu police arrested a self-styled godman on Sunday for conducting a fraud by promising a follower a house worth Rs 50 lakh in Jaipur at Rs 20 lakh. The Churu police received a court directive to investigate the matter following which an investigation was conducted and the man was arrested.

The Kotwali police of Churu registered a case after the court directive was received. “The complainant, Sanwarmal Soni (35), a resident of ward 28 of Churu, said he used to follow a godman who he addressed as Babaji or Maharaj. The man conducted a religious yajna at his home several times and established good relations with the family following which the family started trusting him,” said an official.
