As jobs in government sector are shrinking, it was government's duty to take care of the population by providing jobs in private sectors, she said.
Failure of governments to provide jobs has led to unrest among the people, AITUC Secretary Amarjeet Kaur said on Sunday.
"It is the duty of governments, both the Centre and state, to provide jobs to its population and the failure in this front is creating unrest among the people," Kaur told reporters while briefing on the deliberations of the 41st national conference of AITUC, which concluded here on Sunday.
As jobs in government sector are shrinking, it was government's duty to take care of the population by providing jobs in private sectors, she said. Stating that a person in OBC category in a state was not considered as OBC in another state, she said there was a need to sit and settle the matter and this should not be seen as vote bank politics.
Her comments come in the wake of agitation by Jat community member es demanding quota in government jobs and educational institutes. AITUC has decided to observe March 20 as "Save JNU, Save democracy" day, she said, adding JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar should be released unconditionally.
When asked about reports that anti-national slogans were allegedly raised in the JNU, Kaur said "we are condemning such slogans, if they were raised really. Nobody can justify such slogans", she said. To a question on the proposal to bring street vendors into income tax network, Kaur said AITUC was totally opposed to it.
"BJP government wanted to bring all under IT network, but attempting to waive corporate taxes. This showed that it favoured big corporates and also foreign companies," she said.
