"Until good thoughts translate into action, they do not mean much. Guruji through the Art of Living, has taught people the way in which spiritual wealth can be gained," Fadnavis said.

The chief minister was speaking at an event organised by the foundation in neighbouring Navi Mumbai.

"The biggest problem today farmers are facing is of water scarcity and irrigation facilities. The state government, through its 'Jalyukya Shivar' programme has made 5,000 villages drought-free, and aims to make 1,000 villages drought-free by next year and 20,000 by year 2019," he said.

Fadnavis said in the whole exercise, the largest share of work done has been by AOL volunteers, who used scientific, water shed approach to desilt nullahs, thereby making water available for farmers.

"The AOL has done unprecedented work in water conservation in Maharashtra. The confidence with which its volunteers are doing work, I am sure by 2020, Maharashtra will become drought free," he said.
