Amid the unprecedented rise in COVID-19 cases, various state governments have imposed curfews and partial lockdowns to contain the spread of the virus.

Recently, a government order by the Haryana government has been making rounds on social media platforms, claiming that a weekend lockdown will be imposed in the state. This created a lot of panic and confusion in the residents of Haryana.

The Directorate of Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, Haryana, on Friday (April 16) took to Twitter to give clarification about weekend lockdown.

As per the department, the order being circulated is absolutely fake and there will not be an imposition of weekend lockdown in Haryana.

“Fake message about the imposition of lock down during the weekend in Haryana has been circulated in some social media posts. That needs to be ignored fully. The state will take criminal and punitive action against the perpetrators: govt official,” the department wrote in its tweet.

Lately, a lot of fake messages regarding lockdowns and curfews are being forwarded on social media platforms. It is advisable that one should always rely on information from verified sources as fake forwards can only lead to chaos and panic among people.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon officials have stated that there are no plans of imposing weekend lockdown in the city.

“As of now it is only night curfew that is being imposed. If things escalate further and the government thinks it fit then we might be going for a weekend lockdown, but as of now there are no plans for it,” Yash Garg, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Gurgaon was quieted as saying by the Indian Express.

“The situation is dynamic, in Haryana the orders have come directly from the State Disaster Management Authority, so if the government thinks it fit it might be there but, as of yesterday, when we had a video conference with the Chief Minister, there were no such plans,” he added.
