Seeking prestigious world heritage city status for the national capital, Delhi Government will soon send a detailed application to the UNESCO."We have decided to make an application for the nomination of Delhi in UNESCO's list of world heritage cities," said an official of the Delhi Tourism department.The detailed documentation for the nomination will be prepared by Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Ltd (DTTDC) in cooperation with heritage conservation NGO Indian Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).The government has also planned to organise a series of programmes to highlight rich culture and heritage of the city and to campaign for getting the UNESCO heritage city status for Delhi.To this effect, a project titled 'Delhi: A Heritage City' was launched yesterday. A website was also launched highlighting Delhi's heritage value and various aspects of the nomination process.In order to articulate Delhi's nomination, INTACH, Delhi chapter has invited a number of experts, both national and international, to write papers on various aspects of the city's heritage.Further, to showcase the heritage of the city and to acquaint and involve citizens with the nomination process, INTACH has decided to reach out to experts, heritage enthusiasts, students and other citizens of Delhi through a serious of seminars, public lectures, heritage walks, cultural performances and a film festival.
