A suspended executive engineer was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly offering a bribe of Rs five lakh to Madhya Pradesh Public Health and Engineering Minister Gauri Shanker Bisen for his reinstatement.

R N Karaiya had allegedly gone to the minister's official residence last night with the cash along with one Pawan Vyas, police said. When Vyas made the offer to Bisen, he called the police and lodged a complaint against Karaiya and Vyas.

"One Vyas called me up when I was returning from Vallabh Bhawan (Secretariat) around 9.15 pm stating that he had some work with me," Bisen told PTI today. "When I reached home, Vyas said that he had come with Karaiya and was sitting with my Personal Assistant Vanraj. He asked me to reinstate the suspended executive engineer," the Minister said.

"I came to know that Karaiya showed wads of notes to my PA, but before I reached he escaped with the money," he said adding that he registered a case with the police. Bisen said Karaiya was suspended during a review meeting on May 14 following many complaints against him. Karaiya has been arrested under TT Nagar Police Station area, Additional Superintendent of Police Ruchi Shrivastava said.
