The Delhi Police has arrested four people, including a Rajasthan excise department official, for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking, in two separate incidents.
The special cell and crime branch of the Delhi Police recovered 9.5kg of opium and 270gm of heroin from them.
The government official Khumba Ram (38), who is also a retired army official, was arrested with two of his associates on June 17. He had retired from the Indian army in 2011 and joined the excise department.
Investigators claim that Ram, along with his associates Hanuman (20) and Ajay Kaushal (44), has been trafficking drugs in Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
The trio was arrested on the Ring Road opposite the Tibetan Market near ISBT when Ram came with Kaushal to Delhi and met Hanuman to buy a drug consignment.
“They were immediately arrested. Hanuman had delivered the consignment to Ram, who was selling it to Kaushal,” said deputy commissioner of police (special cell) Sanjeev Yadav.
The police recovered a bag containing 9.5kg opium from them.
In a similar operation, the Delhi Police arrested 25-year-old Raju when he was allegedly delivering a drug consignment at Mangolpuri. The police recovered 270gm of fine quality heroin from Raju, that is worth Rs 27 lakh in the international market. “He had got the consignment of drugs from his sister,” said additional commissioner of police (crime) Ravindra Yadav.
