Ex-IPL Chief Lalit Modi goes ballistic on Twitter; targets Arun Jaitley and others

Ex-IPL chief Lalit Modi took to Twitter on Sunday to take on his detractors. Modi's immigration status in the UK has provoked a political storm in India after a UK-based newspaper disclosed that he called up External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to help him acquire his British travel papers. Although Swaraj says she acted on "humanitarian" grounds, she has faced calls for her resignation over an apparent conflict of interest.

Modi, 49, travelled to London in 2010 after the Indian Premier League (IPL) became embroiled in allegations of match- fixing and illegal betting. He denies any wrongdoing and says he came to Britain because he faced death threats from criminals in India.

He also came under the scanner for his business deals with Vasundhara Raje's son Dushyant Singh. Incidentally Raje also helped him to get his visa.

But now Lalit Modi has decided to strike back. He is not only attacking prominent politicians cutting across parties, he has also openly taken on media moghuls. Clearly Modi seems to be working on a very aggressive strategy where he is prepared to burn all bridges to protect himself.

Today, Modi took on Union FM Minister Arun Jaitley and called him a Congress agent.

He said that Arun Jaitley has shielded Srinivasan despite evidence against him.

He virtually challenged Jaitley to publish his phone records.

He said that he is happy to face the court of law but will not bow down to political pressure.

Clearly Lalit Modi has decided to go down with all guns blazing. His strategy may prove counter-effective if his sympathisers leave him after his latest outburst. But he seems to believe that this tirade will likely to put the attention on other entities thus deflecting the focus from him.

Modi has announced on Twitter that very soon there will be an YouTube channel where he will air his views. He has also claimed that he will continue targeting high profile people. It is anyone's guess what will happen next. But one thing for sure for all concerned parties- don't keep calm, Lalit Modi's tweets are coming.
