COIMBATORE: Depressed at his inability to converse in English, a teenager who held a record for backhand push-ups allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison.

Nineteen-year-old Satheeswaran, a resident of Bharathipuram here and a polytechnic student, had made it into the Limca Book of Records by doing 153 backhand push-ups.

He was trying to enter the Guinness Book of World Records by performing the highest number of backhand push-ups and had demonstrated his feat to an audience some time ago. He had also video graphed and photographed his feat to send it to the Guinness Book authorities.

However, Satheeswaran was upset due to his inability to speak in English and allegedly consumed poison at the home of a relative in Sathyamangalam, about 70 km from here, on Monday night, police said on Wednesday.

Though he was admitted to the government hospital here, he died yesterday afternoon without responding to treatment, they said.
