Earlier on September, a 22-year-old IIT-Bombay student committed suicide allegedly due to depression in a hotel in Jogeshwari west.

The deceased identified as Jaydeep Swain is said to be a student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, and was pursuing his Masters in engineering from there. According to the police, Swain's body was discovered after the owner of the hotel reported to the police about the smell coming from his room. Swain who was lying unconscious on his bed was immediately rushed to Cooper hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Swain who hails from Durg district of Chattisgarh was staying in the hostel of the IIT campus and later he checked inside Treebo hotel of Jogeshwari west. The hotel staff had allotted him a room after completing the identification and payment formalities and since then, Swain was not seen outside his room.

"Swain checked inside the hotel last week on Friday and as per rules, we first followed all the procedures and then Swain paid the rent by his card. After he checked in, we did not see him outside his room and neither anyone from outside came to visit him. He had just one bag and he never responded to the room service staff and he also did not respond to the breakfast call given in the morning. We thought not to disturb him so we considered to leave him alone. On Monday morning, the guests complained about smell coming from Swain's room so later we informed the police who opened the door with a master key and there they found the dead body." said a hotel staff.
