Encounter between Delhi cops, snatchers at Connaught Place, three arrested

Three snatchers have been arrested after an exchange of fire between police and snatchers near Shankar Market at Delhi's Connaught Place. The incident took place around 5 am on Wednesday.

The encounter erupted when the snatchers opened fire on the cops in order to escape from the scene, however, two of the three snatchers got injured after cops backfired at them.

Two snatchers who have been injured are identified as Saleem Ismail and Saud. They have been taken to a nearby hospital.

The snatchers were using a motorbike to escape. Police have also seized illegal weapons from them.

In recent days, several incidents of snatching have been reported in the national capital.

Earlier on Thursday, a senior Airforce officer was robbed in Delhi's Connaught place after two-bike-borne men snatched his mobile phone and cash from him.

The 40-year-old senior Airforce official identified as G Thomas, was cycling at Connaught place when this incident took place.

Two-bike borne men snatched a pouch (small bag) that was fixed on his cycle having a one-plus smartphone and cash Rs 200.

Soon after the incident, senior Airforce officer reported the matter to the police and a case has been registered under IPC section 379.

The incident took place around 6 am when the officer had left for cycling. He was near Baba Kharak Singh Marg when two-bike-borne assailants robbed him.
