Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was on Wednesday shown black flags and an egg was hurled at him allegedly by the opposition Congress activists during his one day tour to Mayurbhanj district. An unknown person allegedly hurled an egg at the pandal where Patnaik was present at Suliapada government high school field, a district police official said.

Following the incident, the police swung into action and a scuffle took place between the police and the activists. Rishitosh Patra, a student Congress activist was arrested by police on the charge of hurling the egg targeting the chief minister, SDPO Abhiram Nayak said.

The officer, however, claimed that the egg did not hit the chief minister or others sitting on the dais. Police had earlier detained more than 50 BJP activists, including the district President Krushna Chandra Mohapatra and 14 Congress party workers before the tour of Patnaik. Patnaik also addressed three more meetings at Badachatara, Bahalda and Mohardapalasa before returning to the capital this afternoon.
