An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale jolted West Bengal and parts of neighbouring Odisha on Tuesday evening. According to the India Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Hooghly district of West Bengal. The earthquake hit the region at around 6:36 pm at a depth of 10km. the tremors were felt in northern parts of Odisha also.
