Over 12 policemen, including a deputy superintendent of police and a number of villagers were injured in a pitched battle between the two sides in Bihar's Nawada district today.
 
District superintendent of police GP Sinha said trouble erupted when policemen denied villagers entry to a temple located in the premises of Roh police station.
 
Following the pitched battle the police resorted to lathicharge and burst tear gas shells injuring several villagers, he said.
 
The injured deputy superintendent of police identified as Tavish Kumar.
 
The situation in the village is now tense but under control, the SP said.
