A deputy superintendent of police and his brother, a head constable, were seriously
injured when the former's drug-addict son opened fire in a fit of rage.
 
The incident took place at Amarnath Jha Marg area of the city here late last night when Chaudhary reprimanded his son Rajesh for returning home, police said, adding which led to an altercation following which Rajesh whipped out a country made pistol and opened fire.

Sarju Prasad Chaudhary, a deputy superintendent of police currently posted in Varanasi, had come to his home on a vacation. His younger brother Ramnath, who is posted as a head constable in Uttar Pradesh, also came home during vacations.
 
The bullet ripped through the hand of Ramnath, who was trying to pacify the father-son duo, and hit the head of Chaudhary.
 
Both the injured were taken to a hospital where their condition was stated to be out of danger, they said.
 
Meanwhile, Rajesh, the youngest of three brothers and reportedly addicted to narcotics, was absconding, police added.
