Criminal Vicky Gounder, allegedly the mastermind of Nabha Jail break 2016, was killed along with his associate Prema Lahoriya by Punjab Police on Friday.
He was shot dead at Punjab-Rajasthan border near Muktsar village. Two policemen also got injured in the encounter.
The police team started chasing Gounder on a tip-off, the sources also informed the police about his whereabouts.
Vicky Gounder, the wanted criminal, was trying to evade arrest since November 2016. He was the allegedly the mastermind behind the sensational escape from the Nabha jail in 2016.
Gounder and five other prison inmates, two of them terrorists, had escaped from the Nabha Central Jail in Punjab.
However, Punjab Police had arrested the five prisoners again in a few months. But Vicky Gounder also known as Harjinder Bhullar remained on the run.
Gounder had also been accused of fatal attacks on rival gangster Sukha Kahlwan near Phagwara town.
