ITANAGAR: The director of Doordarshan Kendra here was assaulted on Friday  during dawn-to-dusk bandh by All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) which paralysed life in the state capital.

Arun Sakat was assaulted when he was going to his office from his residence in a car, police said, adding his driver and some labourers engaged by DDK present at the spot were also injured.

Shops, banks and educational institutions remained closed and vehicular traffic kept off the road during the bandh.

Official sources, however, claimed that the state secretariat functioned normally with 84 per cent attendance.

The bandh was called as part of the on going agitation by AAPSU and North East Students Organisation to press for the removal of Prof Kalyan Kumar from the post of the director of North East Regional Institute of Science and Technology here for his alleged involvement in plagiarism and irregularities.
