Don't need nationalism lessons from BJP, unfortunate we don't know details of air strike: Mamata Banerjee

The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a fresh salvo on the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Tuesday.

Banerjee said that she needs no lessons on nationalism from the BJP.

“We are all ‘hindustani’. We were born here in Bengal. My father was a freedom fighter. Hence I’ll not take lessons on nationalism from the BJP,” she said while leaving Nabanna – the state secretariat.

She launched a full scathed attacked on the ruling party at the centre – BJP yet again on the Phulwama terror attack and the air strike conducted by the Indian Air Force in Pakistan.

“They can punish me if they wish to. But as a citizen I have equal right to express myself.  Why was an attack like Phulwama allowed to take place?  Didn’t we have an intelligence input? Who is responsible for this attack? Why were so many jawans allowed to be attacked this way? Jawans bleed for the nation not for politics. I will not allow anyone to politicise the death of the jawans. I condemn this attitude where people are doing politics over jawans death. We stand with the jawans, armed forces and country,” she added.

This is not the first time that the Trinamool Congress supremo raised questions on the number of casualties in the air strike conducted by the Indian Air Force in Pakistan but also blamed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for politics over the death of the jawans.

“It is unfortunate that we still do not know the details of the air strike. Whoever is asking a question is being termed as an anti-national. We stand by the country and the armed forces. We stand against BJP. None from the party have a say. BJP has been reduced to Modi-Shah private company. PM Modi is a shame to the post of a prime minister,” she further alleged.
