The Bombay High court on Friday issued a notice to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and asked them to reply in two weeks after the death of Dr Deepak Amrapurkar.
The High Court asked the BMC to place its policy in regards to covering manholes and appointment of a committee of bureaucrats for giving recommendations on proper maintenance of manholes.
However, the court refused to entertain prayer for direction to file FIR against the BMC officials and compensation of 50 lakh, saying it is personal in nature and family of deceased can pursue them on their own, not by way of Public Interest Litigation.
The dead body of renowned gastroenterologist of the Bombay Hospital Dr Deepak Amrapurkar who went missing near the Elphinstone Road station following heavy rains which lashed the megapolis, found near Koliwada in Worli
58-year-old Amarapurkar had left for home on Wednesday evening by his car but due to water logging on the road he asked his driver to drop him near the Elphinstone Road station and started walking towards his residence, a senior police official said.
Torrential rains pounded the metropolis throughout the day on Wednesday. The city gauged a whopping 298 mm of rainfall, the highest in a day in August since 1997.
