In our country, people often say that two is better than one. Today we also want to say the same to you. If you use two masks instead of one, i.e. double masks, you can protect yourself from getting infected with the coronavirus.

Several studies have revealed that this time the new variant of the coronavirus may remain in the air for a longer period of time. This is called Airborne Transmission. Think of it as such that the new strain of the virus is in the Micro i.e. small droplets, which remains in the air for a long time instead of falling on the surface. In such a situation, if you have not covered your face properly then it can infect you.

To avoid this, you have to wear a double mask i.e. one mask over the other. A study by the CDC states that if people wear two masks, it can reduce the chances of COVID-19 infection by 96.4 percent. That is, by wearing two masks, you will not get infected quickly. And most importantly, even if you are in a crowded area, double mask will help to protect you from the virus.

The way it works is that when you wear two masks, it creates armor of 6 or more layers on your nose and mouth. Because all the masks that are coming in the market are of three layers. Doctors believe that the virus cannot penetrate your mouth and nose by penetrating the 6 layers of the mask. So, not one, you should apply two masks.

Among the masks that are being used the most in India right now, first is surgical mask, second is cloth mask and third is N95 mask. The study has suggested that if you wear an N-95 mask, then you don't need to wear two masks, as there is less risk of Micro Droplets of the virus going in. But if you are wearing a surgical or cloth mask, then you should wear two masks.

In addition, fitting of the mask is most important. You have to make sure that the mask covers both your mouth and nose very well. You will see many people, whose mask slips and goes down the nose. They pull  it up a couple of times, but then they get tired and start wearing masks like that only. This increases their risk of getting infected. Therefore fitting of the mask is also necessary. Think of it like that if you wear a medium size shirt but if the shopkeeper gives you a double XL shirt, will you wear it? You will not wear it, because that size is not yours.
