DNA Impact: Ahmedabad cops recover vehicle stolen 5 years ago but still generating challans for owner

A day after DNA report that a two-wheeler stolen five years ago continued to generate traffic violation challans for its owner, the Ahmedabad traffic department traced the stolen vehicle near Paldi- Ellisbridge road in the city. Sources said the vehicle was recovered from a woman but police have refused to reveal further details as investigations are still on.

"On Tuesday morning, our team was able to track down the vehicle and we have recovered it. In the primary investigation, we came to know the vehicle was used by a third party and that it was transferred without formal procedure,” said AK Singh, City Police Commissioner.

"We suspect that the main accused who must have stolen the vehicle five years back must have transferred the vehicle to the third party," he said. 

The vehicle originally belonged to Maninagar resident Abhishek Kadhiya who over the last few months has been receiving traffic challans, though he hadn’t broken any traffic rules. 

He has so far received six e-challans since October last year although he had reported the theft of the vehicle five years ago.

The challans show a girl riding the two-wheeler, and all three challans were issued for violating the stop line at the Paldi crossroads. The errors took place on October 24, November 13 and November 27 last year.

Kadhiya said the vehicle was stolen five years ago and despite a written application to the Ahmedabad police commissioner, no action was taken to nab the person who stole it, nor against the person who’s using the stolen vehicle currently.

On December 15, 2018, he had approached the Ahmedabad police commissioner. But even after his application was sent to the concerned police officials, he continued receiving the e-challans, getting one each on January 4, January 10 and March 4 this year.
