DNA EXCLUSIVE: Well dressed cops to monitor ASEAN movement

Courteous, smart, nattily dressed, suave police officers, with flawless English speaking skills should be deployed as part of the security contingent surrounding the heads of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. The idea is to ensure that the VVIP delegates do not encounter any language barrier and the security personnel attached with them are able to strike a conversation as and when required.

Further, pot-bellied personnel have been asked not to appear, not only near the VVIPs but on their routes also. Also sources said that all head of states or head of government have been granted President Scale of Security /Prime Minister Scale of Security . It has been decided that all traffic should be stopped for them.

Sources said that all the proper dress codes have been issued for forces involved in providing security to the ASEAN heads. All personnel on duty have been asked to properly and smartly dressed in clean uniforms. Their shoes should be polished, their clothes should be ironed, their coats should be clean, their hair should be cut and combed. Interestingly, senior officers should check the clothing and appearances of the personnel before deployed.

Also the traffic police personnel have been asked to wear white hand gloves and constables and head constables at traffic intersection have been directed to wear white helmet if they are on bike. No other helmets are allowed to wear, sources said.

Further, sources said, dos and don'ts have been issued from top security personnel from Ministry of Home Affairs. Sources said the staff should wear clean pattern of uniform, should reach well in time, shall perform duty in scattered manner, should know the topography and understand the call signs.

Also English speaking and well-versed and well-read personnel should be deployed near the VVIPS and they should be courteous to them . The senior officers should personally check how good their linguistic skills are apart from being physically fit.

For traffic police, the personnel have been asked not to shout at motorists while diverting or regulating the traffic and they should not allow any vehicle to be parked in VVIP routes. Also the police personnel should not leave the barricades after VVIP movements are over.

Sources said that Secretary-General of ASEAN Dato Lim Jock Hoi is already in Delhi and is looking after the arrangements made by the Indian security personnel.

Apart from heads of Indonesia and Brunei, all other heads of ASEAN countries have arrived in India. Sources also said that their wives has planned to visit a Akshardham as they have requested to see the light and sound show there. Sources said the Secretary General of ASEAN, Head of Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia and delegates are to stay in Hotel Taj, Head of Thailand and Indonesia at The Leela Palace, Head of Cambodia at Hotel Taj Mahal, Head of Laos and Philippines at the Oberoi and Head of Myanmar and Brunei at Hotel ITC Maurya.

Also, Delhi civic bodies has been asked to clean up the signages /boards coming in the routes taken by the VVIPS and if not done by Wednesday or strict action would be taken against them. They have also been asked to put up new signages /boards where required.

Sources said that the security agencies have made a full proof contingency plan for the VIIPs in case of contingences arising out of bomb explosions, shootouts by terrorists , air crash ,earthquake and any other eventuality leading to disruption of summit.
