Diwali, the festival of lights will be celebrated all across the country from November 14. People all over the country will make the most of the five-day celebrations.

Decorated lanterns, lighting diyas is a common sight, witnessed in every household every day during this festival.

This five-day festival begins with Dhanteras and ends with Bhai Duj. The festival is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil.

On this Diwali, after 499 years, a lineup of planets is being formed, which coincided with that formed the year 1521. According to astrological calculations, Devguru Jupiter will be in its own sign Sagittarius and Saturn will be in its own sign Capricorn. 

This will be an auspicious period for many natives due to the presence of Devguru Jupiter and Saturn in their swadeshi. In such a situation, this festival of Diwali will bring happiness and prosperity to them. Auspicious timings:

Bathing on Narak Chaturdashi - will be from 5:23 am to 6:43 am.

Chaturdashi Tithi - 1:00 pm, will remain for 16 minutes.

Amavasya Tithi - will continue till 10.00 am on November 15.

However, this year's Diwali might not witness the bursting of firecrackers at levels witnessed in the years prior to this.

Many states like Delhi, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Chandigarh, Haryana, Karnataka have all imposed a ban on firecrackers.

National Green Tribunal has issued notice to the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) to ban the use of firecrackers in the interest of  public health and the environment

History and Significance:

The popular legend dictates that the festival of Diwali symbolises the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravan after 14 years of exile. He was welcomed back into the kingdom by lighting diyas. 

Meanwhile, in Bengal Goddess Kali is worshipped, know as the goddess of strength.

In certain households, Diwali is celebrated by worshipping Goddess Lakshmi. It is believed that she was born on the new Moon day of Kartik.

There are several legends in the Hindu Mythology associated with this auspicious festival.

The cheerful atmosphere during Diwali, with the lighting of diyas and candles signifies the triumph of good over evil. It is a festival which is celebrated by people cutting across all religions, and castes.
