Dindigul Lok Sabha Election Results 2019: Election in Dindigul constituency was held on April 18 in the second phase of Lok Sabha election 2019. Polling in 38 out of 39 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu was held in the second phase.

Counting at 6:18 pm: DMK's P Velusamy with 695113 votes is leading against K Jothimuthu of the PMK who has so far got 195500 votes

DMK's P Velusamy and PMK's K Jothimuthu were the key candidates in the fray. The latter's party entered into an alliance with the AIADMK.

Dindigul Lok Sabha constituency comprises of six assembly segments. Out of them, one is reserved for Scheduled Caste candidate. 

Apart from PMK, AIADMK aligned with BJP, DMDK, Tamil Maanila Congress, Puthia Tamizagam, Puthia Needhi Katchi and NR Congress. While, AIADMK's arch-rival DMK entered into an alliance with Congress, CPI(M), CPI, MDMK, VCK, IUML, KMDK and IJK.  

Actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan's party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) also fielded its candidate Dr S Suthakaran from Dindigul constituency. 

AIADMK's M Udhaya Kumar was the sitting MP in Dindigul. He defeated DMK's S Gandhirajan in 2014 and registered victory with a margin of more than 1.2 lakh votes.

Dindigul Lok Sabha election results in 2014, 2009 and 2004

2014: AIADMK's M Udhaya Kumar received 510462 votes and defeated S Gandhirajan of the DMK who only got 382617. Udhaya Kumar thrashed Gandhiraja with a margin of more than 1.2 lakh votes. 

2009: NSV Chitthan (M) of the Congress got 361545 votes. He defeated P Baalasubramani (M)  of the ADMK who only had secured 307198 votes. 

2004: NSV Chittan (M) of the Congress secured 407116 votes. He defeated M Jeyaraman of the ADMK who only got 251945 votes. 

The state of Tamil Nadu has 39 parliamentary constituencies out of which seven are reserved for SCs (Sriperumbudur, Chidambaram, Rasipuram, Pollachi, Perambalur, Tenkasi, and Nagapattinam). However, no seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes in the state. 

In 2019, EC had cancelled the election in Vellore constituency after a large sum of cash was allegedly seized from a DMK candidate's office in Vellore, therefore, out of 39, polling took place in 38 Lok Sabha constituencies only.
