The Bagodara police on Sunday nabbed the driver of the truck that had run down 18 pilgrims on Dholka-Bagodara Highway last Thursday. The absconding driver was nabbed from Madhya Pradesh (MP).

Identified Dinesh Bhuria, the 20-year old was nabbed following a tip-off. Bagodara police first contacted the owner of the truck and later arrested Bhuria from Bildhara village of Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh, sources said.

Bhuria had been on the run since his truck ran over 18 pilgrims and injured other 40 on Dholka-Bagodara highway early on Thursday. He had lost control of his truck after an alleged tire burst and had mowed down the pilgrims who were sleeping on roadside. The victims were on their way to the Bhadiyad Peer Dargah in Dholka taluka of Ahmedabad district to attend the annual Urs fair. The truck was loaded with cement and was on its way to Wankaner in Rajkot district from Madhya Pradesh.

The police had seized Bhuria's mobile phone and had talked to his relatives and the owner of the truck by using the contact numbers saved in it.

Dholka police have registered a case of negligent driving and started further investigation.
