Congress' Jitin Prasada was facing BJP's Rekha Verma and BSP's Arshad Iliyas Siddiqui who is the joint candidate of opposition alliance of the BSP-Samajwadi Party-RLD. Shivpal Yadav's Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) fielded Malkhan Singh Rajpoot, a former dacoit of Chambal claims to have campaigned for Prasada in 2009 but has now turned his opponent.

The constituency went to polls in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha election on May 6.

Constituency profile

Dhaurahra Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 80 parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh. The constituency came into existence in 2008 as a part of the delimitation exercise and covers parts of Lakhimpur Kheri and Sitapur districts. 

Prasada who won the first election in 2004 from Shahjahanpur had to shift to Dhaurahra in 2009 after his home seat was made a reserved constituency. He won the seat with a margin of 1.84 lakh votes. 

He was, however, pushed to fourth position in 2014 elections behind BSP's Daud Ahmad and SP's Anand Bhadauriya. Verma won the seat by a margin of 1.25 lakh votes while her nearest rivals - BSP's Ahmad and SP's  Bhadauriya with both polling around 2.34 lakh votes. 

Dhaurahra Lok Sabha constituency comprises five assembly segments: Dhaurahra, Kasta and Mohammdi in Lakhimpur Kheri district and Hargaon and Maholi in Sitapur district. 

Lok Sabha Elections 2019: State Profile

In the last parliamentary elections in 2014, the BJP had won 71 seats in the state, securing 42.63 per cent of the votes. BJP ally Apna Dal bagged two more. The Samajwadi Party had won five seats with a vote share of 22.35 per cent. The BSP did not win any seat but secured 19.77 per cent votes. The Congress registered wins on two UP seats in 2014, bagging 7.53 per cent of the votes. 

UP is facing a triangular battle between the BJP, the Congress and BSP-SP-RLD alliance. Under the alliance's seat-sharing formula, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is contesting on 38 Lok Sabha seats of the total 80 seats, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party on 37 seats and the Chaudhary Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on three seats. The alliance has left two for Congress' Sonia Gandhi (Rae Bareli) and Rahul Gandhi (Amethi).
