Devguradia villagers stage demo, demand shifting of trenching ground

Residents of over a dozen villages in Devguradia staged a demonstration on Sunday to press for  their demand of shifting the existing trenching ground to some other place.

The locals, who were already demanding to shift existing trenching ground to some other place, recently decided to stage a demonstration on Sunday to register their protest.

Around 800 residents of 15 villages situated adjacent to Devguradia had also been raising their objections against the civic body's decision in another matter of shifting the slaughter house presently situated in Scheme 134 to the trenching ground. However, IMC agreed not to shift the slaughter house in Devguradia area in the Mayor-in-Council (MiC) meeting held on Saturday evening.

The locals, however, staged the demonstration for the shifting of the trenching ground and burnt an effigy of Mayor Krishnamurari Moghe. The protesters later handed over a memorandum to the district collector apprising him about their demands.

President of the committee, Sadashiv Yadav said that IMC had developed the trenching ground in green belt area.

"The area is surrounded by dense population and two famous temples, Shiv Mandir and Swami Narayan Mandir on Devguradia Tekari. Tons of garbage lying in trenching ground is a great threat to the lives of the people residing in the area," said Yadav adding that if the officials concerned fail to take appropriate action in the matter, we will approach the court.

Congress leader, Jitu Patwari and a number of Congress workers turned up in a bid to make the programme a success.
