"This year is a milestone. The UN turned 70. We have adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are days away from charting a sustainable future for our planet," he said.
PM Narendra Modi also outlined how India's developmental goals are aligned with the SDGs. "We in India don't see development and combating climate change as competing objectives. This is centred on the unity of humanity and nature" PM said.

The PM also offered seven points for consideration to act with respect to the climate change. "We need to shift from 'carbon credit' to 'green credit', we must not only reduce fossil fuel use, but also moderate our lifestyle," he said.
He called for a target date before 2030 to reduce high costs of transferring remittances.
"Bold economic and governance reforms have helped India achieve 7.5% growth, strong prospects for higher growth in future," the PM added.
