Dental students challenge govt decision on PG seats
Earlier government had agreed to allow private dental colleges to have 50% seats in management quota.
A group of students studying dental medicine has challenged the state government's decision to split the post-graduate seats into management and state quotas in 50:50 ratio. Earlier, only 15 percent of the seats were in management quota. The matter came up for hearing on Monday before the bench of acting chief justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and justice JB Pardiwala. The bench ordered that the petition be placed before the high court bench which hears education-related matters on such issues. The students have also challenged the bona fide of the PG entrance examination conducted by the consortium of Self-Financed Dental Colleges on February 5."The state government had reached an out-of-court settlement whereby the seats in post-graduate dental course have been split into management quota and govt quota in the ratio of 50:50. Earlier, 85 percent of the seats were reserved for government quota and only 15 percent were for management quota," said Anand Yagnik, counsel for the petitioners.
