NEW DELHI: Dense fog engulfed the national capital late Tuesday night bringing the visibility down to mere zero, severely disrupting air and train services out of gear.

After intermittent rains late in the afternoon, thick fog enveloped the city after 8.30 pm and visibility was down to less than 50 metres in most part of Delhi and adjoining areas.

The visibility at the runway at the Indira Gandhi International Airport was less than 100 metres at 11 pm while general visibility was almost zero, the weather office said.

Airport sources said several late night flights, including eight of Jet Airways, were diverted due to the fog and take-off of flights might be hit.

Traffic moved slowly on the roads and vehicles had to switch on their fog lights to navigate through the fog.

Several train services were also disrupted.
