Delhiites can look forward to better trained guards in buildings and offices. That’s because the state home department has decided to legalise security agencies by issuing them licenses. This means agencies will no longer be able to hire guards unless they have the license. More importantly, the agencies will have to teach security men to fight fire, control crowds, learn to give first-aid and manage disasters. Since Delhi’s 1,000 odd agencies will have to follow government norms, they will also be required to pay the security guards better. So, the two lakh people working with them will have to paid at least Rs5,000.
