The Delhi high court (HC) directed the Centre to take appropriate action within eight weeks on a central vigilance commission (CVC) on an inquiry into financial irregularities at public broadcaster Prasar Bharati. The direction came on an application filed by senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan that the government was not taking action against Prasar Bharati CEO BS Lalli despite the CVC report. After Atul Nanda, counsel for the Centre, said “we are considering the CVC report but have not finalised anything so far”, the court said, “Let some concrete steps be taken by the government by December 15.”The CVC report indicts Lalli, who became Prasar Bharati CEO in December 2007, and other officials of financial irregularities that caused a huge loss to the national exchequer.
