Delhi govt has little role in radioactive scrap: Sheila Dikshit
The origin of radioactive Cobalt-60 found in west Delhi's Mayapuri area, which led to the death of one person, was traced to Delhi university's Chemistry department.
Delhi government has little role to play in taking any action with regard to radioactive material reaching a scrap dealer from Delhi University, chief minister Sheila Dikshit said today. "Delhi University is a central university and does not come within our ambit ... We have little role," Dikshit told reporters here in response to a query.The origin of radioactive Cobalt-60 found in west Delhi's Mayapuri area, which led to the death of one person, was traced to the university's Chemistry department.Dikshit, who was here to attend a function, said Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) was also looking into the matter and efforts were on to ascertain how the radioactive material reached a scrap dealer from the university.
