The Delhi government on Sunday directed all taxis operating in the city to install Global Positioning System (GPS) in their vehicles for the safety and security of the women.

The order will reportedly be enforced on all types of taxis plying in the national capital, including radio taxis and black-and-yellow cabs.

According to reports, taxi operators will not be issued fitness certificates unless the GPS is installed in their vehicles.

This decision comes after the Uber rape case in December, where a 27-year-old woman executive was raped by a taxi driver of the radio-cab company Uber Cab in the national capital.
