A Delhi court on Friday sent Jitender alias Jitu, a bookie arrested by the Delhi Police special cell on Thursday in Ahmedabad, to four day police custody in the IPL spot-fixing case .
Additional session judge Raj Rani Mitra sent Jitu, who was on the run, to police custody till July 2 for interrogation to unearth details in the case. The police had sought a ten-day remand.
Jitu is one of the main bookies and was in constant touch with the others. Jitu is the 29th person to be arrested in the case and provisions of the Maharastra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has been invoked against him.
The investigative agency told the court that he is allegedly a part of the syndicate that functioned under the command of Dawood Ibrahim and his aide Chhota Shakeel.
The Delhi Police, on May 16, had arrested three cricketers - S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan of Rajasthan Royals on charges of spot-fixing. The Delhi Police had slapped provisions of MCOCA on Sreesanth, Chandila, Chavan and on 25 others in the case. Sreesanth was granted bail by the court on June 10. At present, seven accused including Chandila, are in jail and their bail applications are pending in the court.
