Corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar was sent to 14 days judicial custody on Thursday after his custodial remand with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) ended. The ED informed the court that during Talwar's interrogation his connections with fugitive Vijay Mallya were established. The court will now hear the matter on February 28.
During the arguments Special public prosecutor Nitesh Rana informed the court that during the custodial interrogation of the accused for the last two weeks, Talwar voluntarily disclosed information about four properties in Goa, two farm houses in Satbari in Delhi. The financial trail regarding the source of funds for these properties is under investigation.
Talwar was also found to be the Director or beneficial owner in some new companies, such as Sonar Paper Private Limited and Savannah Farmlands Private Limited which is based in Uganda. "These companies had not been disclosed by accused Talwar during the course of investigation. Investigations into the activity and finances is underway. Talwar did not co-operate and gave evasive replies," the ED informed the court.
During his custodial interrogation it came to fore that in the entire process various foreign entities and persons are involved and some persons are residing abroad have been summoned too and they are yet to appear before the ED.
The ED counsel informed the court that since the accused is a politically influential and the investigating agency has the apprehension that accused may hamper or tamper the evidences and thrawt the investigation and hence should be sent to judicial custody for an effective investigation in the case.
Special Judge Santosh Snehi Mann sent Talwar to 14 days judicial custody. Talwar's lawyer requested the court to let him carry his medicines to which the court directed him to move a written application.
