In a major development, Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu has been arrested by in connection with the violence in Delhi that broke out on Republic Day, the Delhi Police Special Cell informed.

Sidhu was absconding since violence broke out in the national capital on Republic Day after some protesters clashed with the police during the farmers' tractor rally.

The Delhi Police had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh information.

According to sources quoted by Zee News, when he Deep Sidhu was absconding, he was being assisted by a female friend of him who was sitting in California. 

Notably, his last location was Ludhiana and he had logged out his Facebook account from phone. The Delhi Police was keeping an eye on his Facebook account as he was continuously uploading videos on Facebook. Later, the police came to know that Deep Sidhu has logged into the social media website through another phone in California and that phone was that of Deep Sidhu's female friend who is an actress herself. After this, in order to dodge the police, Deep Sidhu used to sit in Punjab and make videos and send them to his female friend to California who later uploaded it from Sidhu's Facebook account. He was doing this because he wanted to dodge the police but eventually, he could not escape from the police and was arrested.

The Punjabi actor turned activist earlier uploaded a video on his Facebook account even as teams of Delhi Police were conducting raids in Punjab to track him down.

The names of Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu and gangster Lakka Sadana were included in the FIR registered in connection with the violence at Red Fort in Delhi on January 26, Delhi Police said earlier while adding that Sidhu was involved in the incident.

"On January 26 some people hoisted the flag at Red Fort. Some of them have been identified out of which Deep Sidhu is the prime accused," Praveer Ranjan, Special Commissioner of Police (CP), Crime was quoted by news agency ANI as saying.

The investigation into the Republic Day violence is being conducted at three levels - local police, Special Cell and Crime Branch.
