Singh said she was not at all surprised with the incident that took place in Dimapur. "The way the law and order has been functioning, I think the time has now come for people to take law in their own hands. Why is there a delay in meting out punishment to the culprits? Ever since 'Nirbhaya' incident, we have been demanding fast track courts and speedy justice to rape victims. This is what will happen if the justice is delayed," Singh told ANI.

"I would like to urge the judiciary to speed up the justice otherwise people will take to streets," she added.

A mob in Nagaland barged into the Dimapur Central Jail on Thursday afternoon, dragged out a rape accused and lynched him. Police said the mob overpowered jail security, tied up the man and dragged him for seven kilometres, thrashing him along the way. By the end, he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Syed Farid Khan, a small-time trader who dealt in scrap and used motor cars.
