‘Day’ celebrations grip Ahmedabad colleges

Cultural events and day celebrations in city colleges are in full swing. Students are coming up with novel ideas to celebrate different days in colleges. Some of them planted trees, some danced to the traditional Garba tunes and some organised fashion parade in their respective colleges.

Adhering to the Gujarat University's guidelines, majority of the colleges have cancelled the celebration of days like rose day and chocolate day. Instead, they are celebrating peace day and environment day. Students of M G Science college celebrated Environment day on Thursday. They planted trees in the campus and attended open air lectures near the Botanical Garden in their college. "There is nothing as important as our environment, and we are happy that we are contributing towards the conservation of nature," said a student after planting a tree.   

Similarly, two other colleges celebrated their respective days in style. The MSc students of K S School of Business Management celebrated traditional day coupled with Garba in the campus. Students danced on the beats of Dhol, played by a student. They came up with the idea when they were searching for some interesting alternatives for the age old rose day and chocolate day. "Everyone likes Navratri, and we wanted to celebrate it in a different manner, so we haven't used any stereo speakers. Instead, we arranged for a Dhol," said a third-year student.

BCom students of L J College of Commerce, celebrated their Culfest with added spice and lots of style. Around 200 students took part in events like singing, dancing, drama and fashion show. Highlight of the festival was the fashion parade, for which, they hired some professional dress designers, hair dressers and make up artists. All these efforts of these students made the show so real, that it looked like it was managed by professional organizers. " We celebrate this CulFest every year to bring out the hidden talents of these students" said Viral Shah, principal.
