Police to collect all details of bookies nabbed during IPL to keep eye on them during CT matches.
Ahead of the Champion’s Trophy (CT) matches to be played at the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Stadium in the city, the Jaipur police are gearing up to identify punters involved in cricket betting.
To that effect, the Jaipur Commissionerate is set to create a databank of all the punters that the city police successfully nabbed during the Indian Premier League (IPL).
During the recent IPL spot fixing scandal, the city police had found that betting in the city was on the rise with punters operating from small houses and rented accommodations as well.
“The databank will include details of all the punters who have been arrested by the city police right from the first season of Indian Premier League. This will ensure speedy action against these men,” a senior commissionerate official said.
Once the data is collected, the city police officials will be instructed to keep a close watch on these men during the matches.
“The data will include the names and identity of the punters. It will also include the number of times they have been nabbed by the police, not just at Jaipur but anywhere else in the state as well.
Moreover, any other crime committed by them will also figure in the records,” sources said.
Interestingly, once the list of punters is formed, the information will be shared with the police headquarters as well which will help in establishing the nexus between bookies outside the country and
local punters.
