Trupti Desai has become a prominent face of gender equality and is the founder of the Bhumata Brigade, a Mumbai-based organisation. She and her brigade have campaigned for woman  to enter sanctum of religious places like the Shani Shingnapur Temple, the Mahalakshmi Temple and the Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple.

Recently she had hailed the decision to let women enter Lucknow’s Aishbagh Eidgah on the occasion of Eid. She had said: “For the first time women were allowed to enter the mosques in Lucknow. The women are offering prayers there. It's a matter of great happiness. We had started the movement so that the Muslim women get this right. We want equality in temples, mosques and Dargah. This is a very big change. It will be a very big historical beginning.”
