"A CRPF jawan was killed when the IED planted by Maoists near a culvert exploded," inspector general of police (Operation) RK Malik said.
A CRPF jawan was killed today when an IED exploded on a culvert during anti-Maoist patrolling near Saranda forest in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, a senior police officer said here.
"A CRPF jawan was killed when the IED planted by Maoists near a culvert exploded," inspector general of police (Operation) RK Malik said.
Stating that it was not related to today's last phase of panchayat polls, Malik said the incident took place during patrolling of the security forces.
In a separate incident in Giridih's Pirtanda, Maoists and the security forces exchanged fire, Giridih deputy commissioner Vandana Dadil told newsmen there.
